HTC filed the complaint in in a Delaware court alleging that Apple has infringed on eight U. S. patents related to wireless communications and mobile phone displays. Five of these patents have been allotted to HTC by its partner, Google last week, according to documents filed with the U. S. Patent and Trademark Office.
HTC produces several devices based on the Android platform and have been targeted by Apple along with other Android manufacturers including Motorola and Samsung. HTC had earlier filed the complaint with just three patents not related to Google in August and has now filed the new complaint with a stronger position.
HTC also amended another complaint filed against Apple with the U. S. International Trade Commission by adding new patents received from Google. HTC originally filed its litigation at the ITC last month.
"HTC will continue to protect its patented inventions against infringement from Apple until such infringement stops. We believe that we have an obligation to protect our business, our industry partners and our customers, who love using our products." said Grace Lei, General Counsel of HTC.
Google has confirmed that it has transferred patents to HTC before its amended complaints.
